But. But it’s a work truck. Doesn’t count!

YES EXACTLY

Wife has one, son and I have three each. Fortunately for her we’re pretty low on garage, driveway, and curb space.

me trying to get a 2nd personal car.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 22:56 |

But maybe you could convince her if it wasn’t a Toyota.

Explain a Justy is unlike other cars.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:00 |

Yeah, but how many cars does the doggo have?
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:02 |
|
This is why my plan is three cars, then wife.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:04 |

Some people just don’t get it. It’s not about how many vehicles you have. It’s about the ones you could have.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:12 |
|
Doesn’t she know you better than that?
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:12 |

silly wife...

“But what happens when they’re both broken at the same time?”
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:16 |

What is her favorite item to collect?
Use that as leverage.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:18 |

She probably remembers when both Tercels and my truck were broken all at the same time.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:25 |
|
Which is a great argument for a fourth car!
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:39 |

How’s the sofa? Comfy?

It was — until doggo got her paws on it. Doggo was not allowed on couch. But once it was obvious that the Mrs. was not going to enforce that rule, there was no point.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:43 |
|
Wait -- now I see you were making a “sleeping on the couch” joke that I totally missed. Not my sharpest Monday.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:47 |

Try and get something she sees as reasonable(or most sane people) and maybe it will change.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:49 |
|
It’s no use -- she knows too much about the Allroad as it is.
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:51 |
|
Couldn’t you just get a land cruiser or something?
![]() 10/10/2016 at 23:53 |
|
That would be awesome! But it wouldn’t fit in my driveway, let alone my garage.
![]() 10/11/2016 at 00:01 |
|
I see a street right there for parking. Don’t get a pristine one and that would be good enough.
![]() 10/11/2016 at 00:08 |

Or... buy a 3rd car you can sleep in! Brilliant?

It’s not a car, it’s a truck.
I have three... might be why I’m still single...

It’s not about need. Need, schmeed.

![]() 10/13/2016 at 00:55 |

My response to this (which I am seriously considering as I just backed out of a deal for what would have been a third car): sell both existing cars, burn it all down, start over.

My FJ80 is for sale as of today.
![]() 10/13/2016 at 01:00 |

Wait — which of your many cars does this involve. The Rav4 and the Landy?
![]() 10/13/2016 at 01:00 |

por que?
![]() 10/13/2016 at 01:14 |

FJ80 and SQ5, probably. Rav4 isn’t really mine to sell, but a kid rapidly closing in on a driver’s license is a factor. Daily driving the SQ5 makes the FJ80 pointless for all but the roughest duty, and the only reason I’ve been looking for a third car is that I miss a lower, sportier car. The balance was better with the M3 and FJ. Solution: replace the FJ80 with something a little more comfortable but comparably tough (3rd or 4th-gen 4Runner?) so I’ll happily drive it more often; replace the SQ5 with the kind of sporty small sedan or coupe I should have replaced the M3 with (E90 M3? Cayman or 997 911? C63 AMG?); and alternate them more evenly.

?!!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!??!?!?!1ONE
This is stunning turn of events — I mean, you JUST bought that SQ5!
![]() 10/13/2016 at 01:23 |

Yeah, in March, and it has a warranty and service plan through the middle of 2018, so this scheme isn’t in that much of a rush. But I know when I’ve erred. It’s plenty quick and comfortable, and basically the perfect one-car daily driver for my life, but I really miss driving something more FUN, and I fear I will buy an Alfa Romeo ( http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/5822074585.html ) that I have no room for (and thus really do myself some harm) if I don’t get into something sportier soon.

I’m scared to ask how much you’re selling that FJ80 for. Though it is right now probably the “cheapest” LC one could buy (after an early LX), but it’s still a Land Cruiser.
![]() 10/13/2016 at 01:47 |

Pretty good one too! With a lot of recent maintenance, but not the prettiest cosmetic example. I don’t know, this is a new idea, but you and Oppo will be the first to know.

I’m supposed to look at a bad-idea car this Saturday. It’s so bad I’m having a friend who specializes in bad decisions tag along. Not having a second vehicle has been PAINFUL (although having money is nice).
